Better Smile Foundation Continues 2025 Mission with Targeted School-Based Oral Health Programs
The Better Smile Foundation continues its mission to promote oral health and prevention through hands-on education and active community engagement. Our latest visits to primary schools were a testament to the power of early intervention and the importance of accessible oral health knowledge for all children.
Over the past few weeks, our team had the pleasure of visiting the 106th Primary School of Athens, the 1st and 11th Primary Schools of Agia Paraskevi, and the Pedagogiki – Bird Educational Institutions. These visits were part of our ongoing commitment to instill healthy habits from a young age, reduce inequalities in access to dental care, and create a culture of prevention in oral health.
Dental diseases are among the most common preventable health conditions worldwide. Yet, many children remain unaware of the role they can play in protecting their own oral health. By offering education through a fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate approach, we aim to empower children with the knowledge and confidence to take care of their teeth and gums every day.
Healthy smiles go far beyond appearance — they impact nutrition, speech, self-esteem, and overall well-being. That’s why Better Smile Foundation believes that prevention should start where children spend most of their time: at school.
During our visits, students participated in interactive educational sessions designed to make learning about oral hygiene fun and engaging. Activities included:
• Live demonstrations of proper toothbrushing techniques using educational models and visual aids. Each child had the opportunity to practice and ask questions in a friendly, supportive environment.
• Nutritional games where students learned to distinguish between foods that promote healthy teeth (like cheese, yogurt, vegetables, and water) and those that can harm them (such as sugary drinks and snacks).
• Quiz games, storytelling, and role-playing activities aimed at reinforcing key oral health messages in a way children could easily remember and apply in daily life.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Attica Dental Association, Professor S. Gizani, and Professor S. Gkortsogianni from the Clinic of Paediatric Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) for the opportunity and the flawless cooperation throughout this initiative.
A warm thank you as well to the school principals and teaching staff, who welcomed us with open arms and ensured a well-organized and enthusiastic environment for the students. Their commitment to the well-being of their students truly inspires us.
These school visits are not isolated events, but part of a broader vision to build healthier communities through education, prevention, and access to care. As we look to the future, we remain committed to reaching even more schools and children with our message of hope, health, and bright smiles.
Stay connected with the Better Smile Foundation as we continue to advocate for preventive dental care and education for every child.
