Better Smile Foundation updates visual identity to align with research-focused mission
The Better Smile Foundation today unveiled a new brand color palette as part of a broader effort to align its visual identity with its evolving research-driven mission in preventive dentistry and public health.
Design matters in science communication. As our foundation expands its role in evidence-based healthcare innovation, our visual language must reflect the credibility, neutrality, and clarity that rigorous research demands. The updated palette moves away from the bright, playful blue toward a more neutral and professional scheme; featuring calming greys, deep blues, and desaturated accents. This shift is informed by behavioral design principles and accessibility research, with the goal of improving cognitive load, visual hierarchy, and cross-platform consistency. The foundation’s work increasingly involves collaboration with universities, healthcare providers, and policy institutions. Whether it’s presenting early-stage data from pilot studies or publishing toolkits for school-based oral health interventions, the new visual identity is designed to support trust, clarity, and scalability.
“We needed a palette that wouldn’t compete with the complexity of our data visualizations or educational content. It’s not just about looking modern, it’s about being functionally rigorous and globally adaptable.”
~ Dimitris Papakyriakopoulos, Founder of Better Smile Foundation
Built for a Research-First Future
The design update comes as the Foundation expands its research initiatives, including its upcoming Preventive Dentistry Research Lab, the creation of open-access educational datasets, and the release of handbooks for dental professionalsfocused on underexplored topics like gender-based violence detection and public health equity.
The new color scheme will be reflected across academic publications, reports, dashboards, and the Foundation’s online platform over the coming weeks.
